MORE %#$ing SNOW!

Yep, just when I was blogging and sharing the local weather map, feeling good about the upcoming 4c temperatures, Mother Nature makes a turn and it snowed again on Sunday night.  Not huge amounts like in Boston or the North East of the  US, but enough at 3-4″.  Enough to paralyze the area & enough to close nearly 283 local schools.  Astley, Langham, Fakenham, Hindingham, Wells-Next-The Sea & even Holt Primary schools are closed. One of the schools, Overstrand Belfry who really HATE to be closed during storms posted this on their notice: Really sorry! Heavy snowfall on ice is making all routes into school dangerous today for families, pupils and staff. We will make every effort to open tomorrow as roads should be clearer by then!

It’s 7:40 am and I’m still waiting to hear if our school is closed, but I know the head does it utmost to open as so many kids come from just the local area and many walk to school.  Naturally if we could walk, we’d be there!!  We are not the norm to drive 30 minutes to attend school but we just love that Village School. Soren asked to walk to school today!   Ugh, I’m starting to think the local schools are looking good right now, but I’d hate to remove Soren from school, put in a new school for a few months, and return a few months later should we find a home in the area I really want.  Though there are two really, really great schools in the area, Hindringham (but it’s a Church of England school) and Langham Village School.

I’m also bummed that we have to cancel the appointment at Norfolk & Norwich hospital (45 minutes the other direction) .  Maebh was to see the Pediatric Ear, Nose & Throat Surgeon, John Phillips regarding her tubes (grommets) and Audiology for her low frequency hearing loss.  It took us 3 months to get this appointment.  So bummed that 4″ of snow is to blame!  Nils went out to the car to see if he can make it up the driveway, out on the road and back in… result after looping around the flag pole aka green circle, stuck in front of the front door – unable to get back into the carport!  Off to cancel the Doctor appt!.

Grr… next appointment is MARCH 25th at 10:20 am.    They said I could call back in a few weeks to see if something opens sooner, but this is the next available!

The pond in the back looks like a frozen lake where they can play ice hockey on it – of course we won’t!
Guess if we are stuck here, we’ll dress warmly, strap on our boots and head outside for another walk in the beautiful environment.

After all, you’re not sick of posts and photos of my kids in snow, right!?

UPDATE:  7:48 am morning text from the school – school is OPEN and please take care!  Then they texted again advising they are unable to make lunch and to please provide a packed lunch.
I’m going to once again, be hopeful for the upcoming weather.  We have not seen the sun in a few days and it looks like it will be back soon.

Another Couple Snow Days

On Thursday, the entire North Norfolk area continued to be unusually cold and frozen, and the back roads in our area continued to be crap and a huge sheet of ice.  Soren stayed home once again and we thought we’d keep him home on Friday, as the region was expecting to get an additional 5cm of snow.  Turned out his school reluctantly decided to close due to upcoming snow.  We saw no point in driving 30 minutes each way in treacherous roads, risking a car accident.  Plus, we’d be uncertain about how we’ll get him later in the day if we were stuck, as we live nowhere near the school.  Plus, we thought we’d do what the local schools were doing and staying closed.  Aistely Primary, Langham, and Fakenham all remained closed today so did we.   We ran out to the grocery store, stocked up on some food as we’re going to be stuck at home for the weekend.

After some morning play, we took the kids out for a little walk.  In the sunshine, it was really nice.  We played in the yard a bit, headed over to the “green triangle” and up Heath Lane to Gunthorpe Hall gates and then back.   Maebh, like she always does, starts off strong and then requests to be picked up.   We sooo wished we picked up that sled(ge) at the Mountain Wearhouse when we picked up his snow boots.

Here are a bunch of photos – yes, they all tend to the look the same.  Our kids playing in the snow, Maebh begging to be carried, they continue to taste the snow, walk slowly and crack every frozen patch of ice.

Look, it’s snowing!
And she tastes the snow.

Playing in the snow in the “Green Triangle”
And a little dump on her head.
And more…
And she found it so funny, she fell back laughing.
To only get more snow sprinkled on her face.
I.n the middle of the road asking to be picked up.
Crushing puddles of ice.
Smashing ice

A view from an almost 5 year old.

And he breaks up and gets a huge, thick chunk.

Asking if we can keep going the other direction.
Neat fence.  If you remember, I took a photo of in September.

Maebh kicked snow on Soren and thought it was sooo funny!
Mum, don’t tell Maebh where I am.  See if she can find me.
(Ah okay, but you are not hiding so well.  We’ll pretend we don’t see you either.)

Look it’s snowing.

Right before he…

suddenly for some reason, smashed a bunch of snow in his face.

and again…

He found this so funny.

Can you do windshield wipes on my face like this, swish, swish, swish?

Garden Gnome.

View of the house from under a tree.

The next few shots are Maebh trying to get up on the slippery ice patch.  It was too funny and she laughed the entire time and really struggled.

Nest under a neat tree in the backyard.

Gate of Gunthorpe Hall
Then we’d follow our outdoor play session with some yummy hot cocoa and whipped cream.

Today we discovered several animal prints in the yard.  We did some research online to determine what they were, and we think they are hare prints, but are not 100% sure.  If you have any idea, please let us know.

We think this is some sort of bird.

These seem a little different.  Two in the front but the small one is close by so what could it be?

Snow Day = NO SCHOOL

After a delicious breakfast of Cinnamon & Vanilla French Toast made by Soren aka Jamie Oliver and I, we dressed the kids up nice and warm and headed out for some fun in the snow.    Here are TONS of great photos of the kids enjoying every minute of it.  Yes, I know, I went a little overboard in picking out the best ones, but I had such a hard time deciding.   Instead of clogging up Facebook, I will put it here as this is our memory bank.

I also was reading the local newspaper online and they were calling for readers to submit their snow photos. If you know me, you know I always submit photos of my kids for contests, papers and more. So I did the same and sent in this photo.  They loved it and will be using it in the paper version and online site.  LOL  Here is a link to their site.

I’ll grab a hard copy if it makes it to the paper version 🙂   Maebh was cracking me up and then you see Soren just so small in the back laying in the snow.

The area where Soren’s school, is located didn’t get as much snow as we did. It’s closer to the coast.  As we are 1/2 hour away, we opted to call him in and stay home.  Thankfully we did, as it really started snowing hard again around noon.  The local newspaper online was reporting many accidents, overturned trucks, vans in the ditch.  Many were on roads we’d take daily.  Plus lets be serious, he is in Reception = Kindergarten.  I could only imagine the conditions of the small back roads from Bodham to Gresham.

We got a text message from the school advising that due to hazardous road conditions, please feel free to pick up your children earlier, though they’d plan on staying open until 3:10 pm.

And she fell…
She fell in the snow and this was the first photo I took.   So funny how she did NOT cry, but laughed.

And as usual, after playing out in the cold snow, we enjoyed some Warme Chocolade Melk Met Slagroom.

Spray some cream in my mouth like this.
Okay! 🙂

The landscape and house look like a fairy tale, so I thought I’d post some of those photos too.

It looks a bit like a you know what..

SNOW in North Norfolk

Today much of UK got snow.  In North Norfolk, they were calling for up to 5 cm to fall (3 inches) and as of now, 11:34 am we got a coating.  The roads were today, a few of the back roads were slick, but nothing like back in Boston.

The kids were so excited, they want more more more.

Maebh loves the snow too.
