OOB – aka – Old Orchard Beach
One of the most fun days we had during our time in the US last summer was the day we spent at Old Orchard Beach – aka – OOB. I used to come up with friends for party weekends but it’s a great place to go with the whole family – as it’s mixture of sun, sand, and surf, with a huge amount of entertainment thrown in – so no one is bored.
First the kids, Nils & I went down to the beach. They wanted to swim for a bit in the big waves. While my sister and her daughter wandered around a bit.
Music plays loudly, arcades and carnival rides with flashing lights, and storefronts boast everything from cheesy souvenirs, tied-dyed t-shirts and tons of locally made gourmet candy. The food options are endless – cotton candy, fried dough, ice cream, and pizza are everywhere!
There is a pier which jets out over the water with some bars on it – yes we ended up in one for a bit to eat, frozen margarita and some oysters for Soren & I!
The kids and I played some games in Palace Playland. When you win, you collect tickets to turn in for some cheap plastic junk in the end – but it was great fun for them and to watch!
And a few games to see if we could win a teddy – we did!
To this day – they say this day was one of the most fun days they day during our 30 day trip! They’d like to vacation here for a full week. (Great news – my parents live 30 minutes away now – perhaps we can visit longer next time!) . It was a great day out and my sister and her daughter, who had never been here before, also had a nice time.
New England Houses
As we were driving back up to central Maine, I couldn’t help but take some photos of the nice houses we spotted along the way. New England houses are so cute – love the wooden houses and the big porches.
