Our friends Willie & Bill, from The Netherlands, were on a 3 week golfing trip in England and came over to Ireland too. During that they they played at Luttrestown Castle Golf Course which about 25 minutes west of Dublin but also had me join in their game up at Deerpark Golf Club, Howth – the local public, parkland course which is an 18 hole, par 72 course.
The weather was great for the most part and it was a lot of fun. The first 9 holes were better than the last 9 and by the time we were at hole 12, I was physically done and the numbers show it.
After golfing, we headed over to O’Connells in Howth to meet up with Nils & the kids for a couple drinks and bite to eat.
Overall, I played a bit better than I thought I would after nearly 11 months of not touch a club. It gave me me some much-needed confidence, despite having a horrible score in the end. But I will continue to play and only improve. After our trip, I’m going to see what the ladies Pitch & Putt on Sundays is like up there and hit the driving range and a few lessons over at Kinsealy Golf Academy & Driving Range. I borrowed the clubs of my neighbor’s deceased wife, but they were very heavy, I ended up using Willie’s original set, along with sharing her driver and her putter. Once I get a bit better, I’ll look at buying a set of clubs. Or at the very least a few key clubs. Oh and Willie bought me a present – a bead counter to help me keep track of my strokes as after the first few attempts to get it to the green, I blank out and cannot keep track.
Hopefully these guys will return to Ireland to play golf in Cork, Kerry & Dingle – where there are some really amazing courses and experience the Irish hospitality in the south. While I may not be good enough to join them, I can driver one of them, if we got a cart big enough for the three of us!
