I’ve posted before about the many DIY Play kitchens ideas which I wanted to make for Maebh. But I have yet to come across an old entertainment center or used piece of furniture which would do the trick. So after spent a year looking on Freecycle, Gumtree and for sale pages on Facebook, I’ve decided to just buy her one.
After doing some research, I decided to get her the IKEA Duktig one. They lowered the price this year too, so that is great! So now it is 65 for the bottom and top together. So I ordered it online as the closest IKEA to us is over 3 hours away! 😦 It is expected to arrive on December 4th.
BUT, because I think it’s a bit plain, I’m going to jazz it up a bit with paint, a fabric back splash, apron, etc. Below are some inspirational pieces for the end product I’m 100% certain, I’m painting the light birch part.
While I like the yellow color in this first one, I wouldn’t do it for ours.
Not a huge fan of this pink color either, but like how they made it a couple different colors.
I like how they made this one all white. Plus the fabric back splash is cute.
Love how they added a hanging light.
Again, while I like the yellow color, it’s not for me.
The light pink color is cute with the matching fridge, but a little too light for me. I do like the stripes and the added lights.
I really like this one.where all the light beige has been painted over. The purple color is very fun and it pops. I won’t cover the door like they have done but adding a back splash instead could be fun.
Another take on the same set with a matching fridge. They also updated the hardware from the supplied stuff or a metal thin set. Probably trying to match to their home.
This one is very fun with the knobs and addition of the washing machine.
She has some accessories already, but I’m on the hunt for some wooden fruits which can be cut I ordered the stainless pots & utensils from Ikea too and found this really cute wooden tea cake set which I must buy for her.
So first step is to clear out my shed a bit and that is where I’ll build it. It’s going to be a surprise for Maebh at Christmas, so it’s important she doesn’t know it is in there. Can’t wait to see her face when she sees it on Christmas morning.
Now that I know I can do it, I’ll work on making her a really cute with fun fabric pattern and some extra bits like pom poms on the edges, etc. to go with her kitchen. Oh and now that Soren saw hers, he wants one too only larger (at his request)!
