Having just been at Cromer Beach with the kids on Thursday, we took advantage of the great weather on Sunday and headed there again, but this time, Nils came along too.
As high tide was around noon, we decided to first head up to the Cromer Pier to do some crabbing.
|I just loved how all these birds lined up and watched those on the pier. It was as if they were hoping to
either get some crabs which were dumped back in the shallow end or some fries being tossed of the edge.
BUT, as the tide was starting to go out, the net was not properly hitting the bottom (says Nils). Plus I picked up SMOKED bacon, which clearly the crabs do not enjoy as we didn’t even get as much as a nibble.
I had such high hopes for crabbing today while the crabbing was a big dud,we had our picnic lunch up there before heading down the beach for some play. Nils picked up a cold four pack of beer to enjoy too.
You often see a lot of “interesting” things on the Cromer Pier. Perhaps our family is considered “interesting” to others but some of the sights today were as follows: A fellow crab fisher who smoked not one but TWO joints about 30 feet down from us and was as high as a kite. And the other notable one was a women covered head to toe in about a million boils – and she sat right down next to us and ate her ice cream. Later Nils & I discussed that we were both silently hoping that neither child would ask about her bumps while she was present. We of course, talked about it later, I just didn’t want to talk about it then.
The kids & I took a walk down to the end of the pier to view the RNLI Lifeboat.
It was also the first time I stopped to actually look at the frame of postcards along the wall – some neat boats from all around UK
Before we headed down to the beach, we watched the Stand Up Paddle Boards (aka SUP) class from the Glide Surf School out in the water. We carried on watching them down on the beach. It was funny to see the two people who were better than the others slowly go off on their own and one time, one of the guys with them, made them fall off their boards – which I got on camera.
I would love to try this – not sure if it’s best to do it here in the ocean on a calm day or in a lake – either way, it would be fun!
Finally I have loads of photos of the kids going to and from the water with pails, stones buckets, etc.
Maebh thought it was especially funny to fill up all the shoes with sand…
Soren thought it was delicious to pour his fruit shoot on some Salt & Pepper chip and then drink it off.
