Pake’s 64th Birthday Party

As Pake turned 64, we all came together to celebrate with a little party and some Indian takeaway.   This was the first time, our family has ever been around to celebrate Pake’s birthday as we’ve always been in the States in May and Nils’ first time in I think he said 15 years!!  But I think there was one time, over 10 years ago which we stayed at the beautiful, Karel V Hotel in Utrecht and we celebrated both Tjibbe & Jorinde’s birthdays with Tepanyaki Dinner and Bowling… but I could be mixing that up with another birthday – but it was really fun time, nonetheless.

Beppe made her amazing appeltaart which is her mother’s recipe!  I must get right away!  It’s so yummy, not to sweet and apparently so easy to make.
The kids each bought Pake a special present for his garden.  Maebh chose the fun, pink butterfly and Soren the yellow lady bug.   They are a bit cheesy, metal garden things, but as they came from the kids, they were fun!  We have a red one in our garden too, which Maebh got with her best boy, Harvey!

They have such a beautiful, organized garden with so many flowers, I took a few minutes to wander and take photos of the cherry tree, bluebells, lilies of the valley, delphiniums (was told the names, still a flower virgin).

Lilies of the Valley – one of my FAVORITES!!

Author: Stars Stripes and Mayonnaise

I am an American currently living in the Netherlands. I enjoy snapping photos and blogging along the way about our family’s journey as we moved from USA to the UK for a couple years then onto Ireland for three & half years and now in our next adventure in the Netherlands where the kids and are are learning Dutch. As you can probably tell by the name of the blog “Stars, Stripes & Mayonnaise” our family is half American & half Dutch and if you know one thing about the Dutch is that they LOVE their mayonnaise! I seen ’em do it man, they fuckin‘ drown ’em in it. When I started this blog way when it was to capturing memories of our family – essentially a journal of our family adventures, their love of mayonnaise, my love of photography, D.I.Y., crafting, sea glass hunting and exploring with our two amazing kids.
