Toy Library

One of the best things for the kids in North Norfolk, UK  is the Toy Library!  They have something like 10,000 toys, books & puzzles!   Every three weeks (or so), you simply look through their binders at the photos of all the toys and you pick out what you want to borrow.  Then on a set date you drop off the items you have and get your new ones and make an order for the next date.

It’s a mobile van that brings a range of toys, equipment, books and things relevant to kids under age 5 to a location near you.  It most cases, it is a FREE borrowing service – free to join & free to borrow.  They only ask that you return the items borrowed in as good a condition as possible so that we can then lend them on to others.

Our first time we got a wooden doll house, kids torch (flashlight) and a set of threading beads.  The kids loved all three things for like a week and then never touched again.  This is the value of the library – I don’t have to fork over money for these items to then just sit untouched.  This Monday, I’m returning these items and getting a Plasma Car and a Wheelie Lady Bug and some sort of tent/tunnel thingy and a set of walkie talkies. I’ll look through the book to find some other fun things which the kids will like.

Update: Picked up the toys and the Plasma Car & Wheelie Lady Bug.  Maebh got a “test drive” on both – can’t wait for Soren to come home from school and see it.  Our house is a perfect house for it as we live in a house connected to a church, which is rarely used, so we have a great ramp outside.  Perhaps they’ll need some safety helmets asap!

Round Two – After school today, Soren got to “have a go” on each of the ride on toys. They both play and race up and down the pathway and only one near injury was when Soren fell of the ladybug and hit his elbow but he was fine.

Both agree, the yellow one is the best!!

So much fun & to think I have not even taken the walkie talkies or the tent/tunnel out of the car!

Author: Stars Stripes and Mayonnaise

I am an American currently living in the Netherlands. I enjoy snapping photos and blogging along the way about our family’s journey as we moved from USA to the UK for a couple years then onto Ireland for three & half years and now in our next adventure in the Netherlands where the kids and are are learning Dutch. As you can probably tell by the name of the blog “Stars, Stripes & Mayonnaise” our family is half American & half Dutch and if you know one thing about the Dutch is that they LOVE their mayonnaise! I seen ’em do it man, they fuckin‘ drown ’em in it. When I started this blog way when it was to capturing memories of our family – essentially a journal of our family adventures, their love of mayonnaise, my love of photography, D.I.Y., crafting, sea glass hunting and exploring with our two amazing kids.
